Emma Abate

Emma Abate is a research fellow atthe Institute for Research and History of Texts (IRHT, CNRS) and the scientific coordinator of the project *Books within Books: Hebrew Fragments in European Libraries*. Her work focuses on exploring Jewish magical and Kabbalistic traditions through the study of manuscripts produced between the Middle Ages and the early modern period (Sealing the World: Amulets and Recipes from the Genizah , Palermo 2015; “The Initiation of the Righteous: The Ritual of ‘Clothing the Name’ According to a Genizah Manuscript,” 2017).

She edited the anthology The Legacy of Solomon: Jewish Magic in Italy and the Mediterranean (Florence 2019). She is currently working on a book, *La fabrique du golem* (CNRS Editions), which compiles and annotates a selection of instructional texts on the creation of artificial beings, with the aim of bringing to light the issues and concepts that inform the earliest accounts of this ritual.
